IN CHARACTER
Name: M. "Stiles" Stilinski
Canon: Teen Wolf
Canon Point: Episode 3x13
Age: 17
History: One wiki
Personality:
Outwardly, Stiles is an incredibly sarcastic person. He's very much the joker or clown of a lot of situations. This is a defense mechanism, something which he plainly states at one point. He knows that he's no star athlete or even a popular kid and his sense of humor is something he wears like a suit of armor, sometimes even using it to lash out, but mostly using it as a means of protecting himself. Along with the sarcasm, Stiles doesn't seem to have much of a filter a lot of the time, often running his mouth or walking the fine line before he puts his foot in it.
He has ADHD, though the symptoms have tempered themselves somewhat in the year since we first saw him. Where he was once twitchy and unfocused, he's grown into his own a little as his life and the lives of his friends and family have grown more dangerous and dark. This has changed more in his outward manner than anything internal.
His mother died when he was young and while his father was working at the time, Stiles was with her. Towards the end of her life, she was succumbing to dementia and while suffering from hallucinations and delusions, she accused Stiles of trying to kill her. Stiles remembers this, but rarely brings up anything about his mother. As a result of the loss, he and his father are very close. Stiles worries after his fathers health and nutrition and he worries about his father's safety working as the Sheriff even as Stiles is constantly putting himself at much greater risk than that of his father's job. He has no problem whatsoever risking his own life for his father when his father is in danger and he very plainly states that he can't handle losing him after he's already lost his mother.
Just as his father is important to him, his best friend Scott is the next best thing to family. He goes so far as to call Scott his brother and the two have been very close for years. Even Stiles' relationship with Scott's mother is very familiar. Stiles regularly puts himself in harm's way for Scott and feels very strongly that whatever things Scott gets wrapped up in involve him, too, even when it ends up being a bunch of werewolves and Stiles. Just the fact that Scott is a werewolf seems to involve Stiles, who steps up to the plate to help him when no one else can or will.
When Scott is bitten by a werewolf, it's Stiles who figures out what happened, which sets a lot of the tone for their relationship, as Stiles is largely the brains of their two man operation. Even before Scott was bitten, it had been Stiles whose idea it had been to go searching through the woods for a body in the first place on the night it happened and Stiles was often the one coming up with the plans that got them in trouble when they were growing up. As they become more and more wrapped up in the supernatural world, it's Stiles who throws himself into researching what he can find.
Despite all of the research he does, Stiles can be incredibly squeamish, especially when faced with the sort of carnage that is clearly inhuman. It's very clear that it bothers him to see things like that. He's distraught when he thinks he might have to help Derek cut off his poisoned arm, but he still prepares himself to do it when Derek's life is on the line.
Stiles has been "in love" with Lydia for years, though she clearly has no interest at all in him. It's the sort of burning boyhood crush that has him doing and saying embarrassing things. He notices that beyond her superficial beauty that she's actually an incredibly hard-working and intelligent student, certainly surpassing almost anyone else they know. As they get to know each other more, his crush mellows a lot and they start to work well as friends.
He's incredibly awkward about sexuality in general, though not shy about it. He's not embarrassed by his feelings, but rather the stupid actions that they cause, and he has no problem asking Danny if gay guys find him attractive. He's still a virgin despite at least one attempt to change that.
While he's outwardly sarcastic, inside Stiles is a mess of anxiety. There's a part of him that feels responsible for his mother's death and after she died, he suffered from regular panic attacks, though he never mentioned them to Scott until years later when Scott has one on the day of his first full moon as a werewolf. Her death left him worrying about losing the other people he loves. This is likely why he lets very few new people in the way he lets Scott in and why he worries so much about those who are close to him. He makes it very clear that he'd rather die himself than suffer through that kind of loss again. There are many times when people try to get him to get his father, the sheriff, involved in supernatural goings on and he refuses because he's convinced that his father will die.
He doesn't trust people easily and that's readily apparent in his interactions with characters like Derek. For a while, he believes that Derek is a murderer and even though Derek is a werewolf and he can help Scott learn a lot, Stiles would still prefer that they don't deal with him at all.
His relationship with Derek is complicated, often to the point of pulling him in two directions. At first, he doesn't trust Derek, but even when he believes Derek to be a murderer, he isn't willing to let him die. Once he knows that Derek is innocent, however, he readily hides him from the police and his own father. He also winds up giving up his chance to play in his first lacrosse game to help Derek. While they snipe, they also both protect each other on numerous occasions, often to the detriment of their own physical safety. As Derek shows both that is a decent person under the outward attitude and that he does actually care about Scott's well-being, Stiles begins to warm to Derek somewhat and even tries to help him find his missing pack members when they go missing. When Derek's sister is dying, he trusts Stiles to watch over her and Stiles offers him comfort.
Stiles has a strong idea of what doing the right thing is and it's a huge part of his values, though it does not always involve following rules or the law. In fact despite his father being the sheriff, Stiles isn't very concerned with breaking the law at all when it's in line with what is right or seemingly necessary at the moment. As a result, he gets his father in some trouble with his job, for which Stiles does wind up feeling guilty.
When he is offered a werewolf bite that will either turn him into a werewolf or kill him, he declines the offer. He sees what Scott's had to struggle with and the idea that it could kill him and leave his father alone is also a major deterrent. Stiles isn't necessarily content with life as it is, but he knows that being a werewolf isn't the answer to his happiness.
At his current canon point, Stiles is starting to suffer from some of the symptoms that his mother had suffered from before her death. He can't always tell when he's awake or dreaming and he is suffering from insomnia. He's also having a hard time reading, as the words will become unreadable when he tries to focus on them. This is caused by the fact that he and his friends allowed themselves to be temporarily sacrificed to save their parents.
Contracts: Stiles would be skeptical about what he was being told and he wouldn't trust the captains, but he would sign the contract, as it seems to be the best way to get home and he doesn't want to be stuck on some strange planet when he could at least be on a ship with people who are also invested in finding a way back to their homes. There is a small part of him that still can't tell what is and isn't a dream and he would also wonder briefly if any of it was even real.
Abilities/Skills: Stiles is shown to have an aptitude for researching and to have excellent deductive skills. His father being in law enforcement has taught him a lot about how to solve a mystery, but without much, if any, help from his father, he's often excellent at figuring things out that no one else can.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
Strengths: deductive reasoning, problem solving/puzzle solving, research (hampered now by his current inability to read), loyalty, intelligence.
Waknesses: anxiety, mistrust, (And temporarily: Insomnia, acute dyslexia)
Items:
set of clothes (flannel shirt, under shirt, pants, underwear, shoes, socks)
cell phone
lacrosse stick

[ Stiles plays with the MID for a full twenty seconds before he realizes it's on, pulling a stupid face and then recoiling back and flailing wildly. It doesn't do much to stabilize the picture. ]
Hi. Hi! Um... So I'm new. Obviously.
[ Or maybe not obviously. Maybe teenagers are a dime a dozen around here and he's completely unremarkable. Wow, his life really changes when you remove the werewolves. Speaking of werewolves, he wonders if there's an easy way to find out if there are any around here. It's not like he's one, so he can't just sniff them out and he can't just ask, either. That would be awkward, even for him. ]
My name is Stiles. I was wondering if anyone around here had any ideas for how to deal with insomnia. I know all the tricks from where I'm from, but I figured since we're in space, maybe there's some space-cure I haven't heard of.
[ Because this is how he's going to deal with this whole being in space thing. He's going to ignore it 90% of the time and make jokes the other 10% until the low level of panic subsides. That should happen exactly never. ]
